Another great white shark has been caught in the nets at Bondi Beach - the second within three days - according to a media report.
Spear fisherman Ian Puckeridge spotted the shark lying dead in the net on Friday morning, Channel Seven reported.
A Department of Primary Industries spokeswoman could not confirm the incident but said contractors would inspect the net on Saturday morning.
It would be the second shark caught in the nets at Bondi within three days, after another great white was found there on Wednesday morning.
The report comes ahead of what is expected to be a big beach weekend in Sydney, with temperatures forecast to reach 26 degrees on Saturday and 35 on Sunday. The mercury reached 34 degrees at Observatory Hill on Friday.
No fatal shark attacks had occurred at netted Sydney beaches since the nets were introduced in 1937, the department spokeswoman said. But the nets do not cover the entire width of the beach - rather, they are designed to discourage sharks from "establishing territories", she said.
The department's policy is that marine creatures should be freed if safe to do so. The great white is classified as a vulnerable species with a "high risk of extinction" by the international Union for Conservation of Nature.
This year, West Australian authorities caught 172 sharks and shot 68 but has indicated it will not continue to cull this summer.
