The family of Sydney siege victim Katrina Dawson has established a foundation in her memory, and also made plans for a memorial service to be held in her honour next week.
The Katrina Dawson Foundation is now a registered charity, with the mission statement pledging "to preserve and honour the memory of Katrina Dawson and all she achieved".
The Foundation will be focused on the education of women and former Governor-General Quentin Bryce will be its founding member.
Ms Bryce was quick to pay tribute to the life of Katrina Dawson earlier this week, labelling her former student as "a shining star" and "confident, courageous, out-front, articulate, warm and funny, but thoughtful, gentle and understanding".
The memorial service will be held in The Great Hall at the University of Sydney on Tuesday, December 23 at 3pm.
Katrina's family have requested that attendees wear a splash of aqua, which was her favourite colour, and asked that instead of bringing flowers, that mourners donate to the foundation.
The 38-year-old was one of two victims at the siege in Martin Place's Lindt Cafe, and thousands of citizens have travelled to the area in the days since to lay flowers and pay tribute to the lives of Ms Dawson and cafe manager Tori Johnson, who was also killed in the siege.
