A man has been shot twice in Condell Park in Sydney's south-west, just several hundred metres from the scene of another, fatal shooting earlier this week.
The 34-year-old man knocked on the door of a house on Ethel Street shortly before 9am on Wednesday and asked the male resident to call an ambulance, police said.
He had been shot in the right thigh and left forearm and was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
The house where the man sought help is about 400 metres from another house, on Fifth Avenue in Condell Park, where Bilal Taha, 34, was shot dead on Sunday evening in what police said was an escalation of a violent family feud.
Mr Taha, also known as Bill, was standing in the driveway of his family's home about 6.10pm when he was shot multiple times in the back and chest. He collapsed and died later in hospital.
Bankstown Chief Inspector David Small said police were talking to the man who was shot on Wednesday. He would not say if the man was co-operating with officers.
Police are still investigating whether the two shootings are linked and also if the man was shot in Ethel Street, or dropped there after he was injured. He did not know the man in the house where he sought help, Chief Inspector Small said.
Following Mr Taha's death, police said on Monday that his shooting was the latest retaliation in a feud between two local families that has escalated over the past two months.
It was the third time the families had shot at each other, Detective Superintendent Dave Eardley said.
"The families involved in this conflict must take ownership of what is occurring," he said at the time.
"There must be an end to this violence now."
The families were known to police and were "well-entrenched in criminal enterprise", he said.
Police from Bankstown local area command set up a crime scene on Ethel Street on Wednesday morning and were searching the area.
Residents fearful
Residents living nearby are clearly concerned that a criminal feud is being played out in their neighbourhood.
Patricia Chrysiliou, whose house is on Yanderra Road between the scenes of the two shootings, said she was no longer comfortable letting her three children play outside on their own.
"Thank God I am moving out of here at the end of the month. It's definitely the right time, it's become a nightmare living here and the shootings keep getting closer to my home," Ms Chrysiliou said.
"It does worry me because the kids want to go across to the park and play and you just don't feel safe letting them.
"The kids are young, they are innocent, they don't understand. How do you explain to them that it's not safe outside?"
Another woman, Mary, whose family has lived in the area for more than 40 years, said it was only a matter of time before an innocent person was shot.
"You can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's the worry," Mary said.
"Condell Park used to be one of the best areas. We used to sit outside, sleep outside, do everything outside.
"I never expected to see anything like this. You do feel unsafe; it's become unsafe."
Chief Inspector David Small said: "If anybody has any concerns clearly they can contact the police.
"We are always here, we are always available and we are always ready to allay the fears of the residents."
