This is Mike Baird's second reshuffle as Premier, but the first in which he has truly shaped the team he wants to lead the government.
Last year's shake-up was regarded as what his predecessor Barry O'Farrell already had planned before his shock resignation.
This one has a supremely confident Baird - fresh from a stunning election victory - stamped all over it.
Undoubtedly two of the most important appointments are of women : Gladys Berejiklian as treasurer and Gabrielle Upton as attorney-general.
In particular, the combination of Baird and Berejiklian at the top of the government promises to be a formidable combination. Both are young, driven and strong performers inside and outside of parliament.
Berejiklian will oversee the most important reform for the newly re-elected Coalition: the partial privatisation of the state's electricity network businesses.
Andrew Constance will lose Treasury, but pick up transport - always a crucial portfolio for a NSW government but never more so than now.
It's a big vote of confidence in Constance as the government prepares to use the anticipated $20 billion in proceeds on new infrastructure including a second Sydney Harbour rail crossing and rapid transit line.
Baird has also brought some key Liberal backbench talent into his ministry: former barrister Mark Speakman as environment minister and ex-peacekeeper David Elliott in corrections, emergency services and veterans affairs.
Significantly, two right-wing factional warriors have been given the chop - Jai Rowell and Matthew Mason-Cox.
Rowell had a run-in with Baird over the failure to preselect former journalist Dai Le to the upper house ticket this election but why Mason-Cox has gone is less clear unless simply making way for others.
Troy Grant - a former police inspector - has clearly coveted the police portfolio since becoming Nationals leader late last year and made it happen.
He has elevated two rising stars in Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams and upper house MP Niall Blair. Big things are clearly planned for Blair, who has also been made deputy Nationals leader in the upper house.
Axed from cabinet is Nationals MP Katrina Hodgkinson, who had the ugly public battle with then planning minster Pru Goward over contesting the seat of Goulburn.
Goward's move from planning to assistant health and prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault may be viewed by some as a demotion.
But clearly domestic violence is an area of crucial importance that is finally gaining serious focus. The move could also be seen as Goward being in line to take health when Jillian Skinner decides to move on.
There are also some notable additions to the parliamentary secretary ranks that indicate grooming for future cabinet appointments.
In particular, Hornsby MP Matt Kean's appointment as parliamentary secretary to the treasurer signals a serious future for him.
