Golf club members tee off at Stonecutters Ridge for the first time

FOUR of Ashlar Golf Club’s longest-serving members teed off for the first time at their new home in Stonecutters Ridge, Colebee last Friday.

Dot Clifton, Patricia Gear, Linden Pleffer and Alan Smith hit off at 6.42am to begin a new chapter as foundation members of Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club.

Many members turned up to find their way around Sydney’s only Greg Norman-designed golf course and get a feel for the fairways and greens.

They walked the 6335 metre par 72 course, enjoying the bushland surrounds and lakes teeming with birdlife.

Linden Pleffer walked the course a couple of times before teeing off.

“It’s not an easy course ,'' he said. ''It’s going to be very difficult to get out of some of those bunkers.

“But I feel very privileged to have had the chance to hit off first.”

A spokesman said club staff worked round the clock to get the club ready for last Friday’s soft opening, with the bar and bistro stocked and the greens looking perfect.
