Two thieves charged into a Sydney bottle shop with a machete, attacked a 71-year-old employee and left with only a carton of beer, police will allege.
The employee suffered cuts to his wrist, ear and arm when he tried to stop the armed robbers from stealing cash from a till on Thursday afternoon.
Two days after the alleged attack, police arrested at man, 34, at an Oxley Park home and charged him with armed robbery with an offensive weapon.
A number of items were seized for forensic examination.
He was refused bail and expected to appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
The court is expected to hear how the alleged offender and another man entered the Day Street store about 1.20pm and threatened both the 71-year-old employee and another 51-year-man working in the store.
Police are yet to arrest a second man they believed was involved but investigations continue.
