THE newly-established The Ponds Cricket Club teams were trounced by Kellyville Ridge Club teams in their first matches last week.
The junior game was won by Kellyville Ridge after a good performance by The Ponds juniors at The Ponds Cricket Oval.
The senior game was also won by Kellyville Ridge after a healthy run chase by The Ponds senior team.
The match between The Ponds Cricket Club and Kellyville Ridge Cricket Club for the annual Upside Down Umbrella Cup was the highlight of the day.
The trophy donated by John Watterson symbolises the artwork at the Stanhope Parkway roundabout which borders the suburbs of Kellyville Ridge and The Ponds.
The Ponds club secretary Sameer Kekade said it was a fun-filled family day with entertainment, face painting and refreshments.
He said it was also the first cricket match played on the new playing fields at The Ponds.
‘‘The games were played in the spirit of friendship and neighbourly relations between the two clubs,’’ he said.
‘‘It was a successful day for cricket and the start of the 2012/13 cricket season.’’
