Quakers Hills super sub Kyah Simon was up to her old tricks at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada on Monday, scoring the winning goal for Australia to send heavyweights Brazil packing.
Simon's 80th-minute strike proved the difference as the Matildas pulled off a historic 1-0 win in the knockout match in Moncton.
The killer blow came following some great lead-up play from skipper Lisa De Vanna, where Simon was the first to pounce on an error by Brazilian goalkeeper Luciana.
Yesterday Simon told the Sun it was hard to put into words how she felt about scoring the match-winner.
"It was an unbelievable feeling and I was just delighted to be able to be in the right spot after all of the fantastic work by the girls leading up to it," she said.
"Lisa made an incredible run and we've been really making a lot about following up and being there in case the ball comes out and I was lucky enough to get on the end of it.
"To score in a game like that and help us become the first Australian team to win a knockout match at the World Cup was unreal."
Few gave the Matildas much hope of knocking off Brazil, but Simon said they had been carrying the underdog tag all tournament and had learned to embrace it.
"There probably weren't many that thought we would make it this far but I think we showed today that we can match it with the best teams in the world and that belief and confidence just grows even more when you beat a quality team like Brazil.
"While of course we think we can win the tournament we're not getting ahead of ourselves and know there is still a lot of hard work to do before we start thinking about that."
Simon has scored three goals in Canada in a tournament she feared she would miss altogether due to injury.
Her remarkable return to the top could see more rewards on offer for Simon, who is one of three Matildas players in the running to feature on the cover of the new FIFA video game.
With women's national teams to feature in the game for the first time, either Simon, Steph Catley or Katrina Gorry will join Lionel Messi on the cover of the FIFA 16 edition.
Simon said it was enough of a surprise to find out women's teams would be in the game, let alone that she might be on the cover.
"It's something I know Steph, Katrina and I are all privileged to be part of and it would be amazing.
"To be considered to feature on the front cover would be huge, especially being alongside a player like Lionel Messi.
"I'm quite lost for words to think that it might be possible."
The Matildas will now meet either Japan or the Netherlands in the quarter-final on Sunday, June 28 at 6am (AEST). The game will be broadcast live on SBS
