A Jetstar passenger plane en route to Sydney has been forced to land at Williamtown near Newcastle after the crew reported a strange smell in the cabin.
The captain on Jetstar flight JQ413 from the Gold Coast elected to divert to Newcastle as a precaution after crew members reported a smell, a Jetstar spokeswoman said.
The plane landed safely at the airbase just after 5.30pm on Monday.
Engineers are assessing the aircraft to determine the cause of the smell.
"We've arranged buses to transport customers from Newcastle to Sydney and these will depart shortly," the spokesperson said.
