Three police officers ran into a burning home on Friday night to save a man who was left in his bedroom after the rest of his family escaped.
The blaze broke out in Punchbowl, in Sydney's west, just before 10.30pm on Friday and quickly set alight the top storey of the house before emergency services were called.
An Inspector from Bankstown Local Area Command and two officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad quickly arrived at the house in Griffiths Avenue and found two concerned parents waiting out the front.
When officers heard the 36-year-old was still upstairs, the trio ran inside and dragged him to safety.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital by ambulance.
All three officers suffered smoke inhalation from saving the man and were treated at the scene.
It's not yet known how the fire began.
