The cousin of one-punch victim Thomas Kelly helped to save the life of a man who was bashed in inner Sydney on Saturday night, Mr Kelly's father, Ralph Kelly, says.
Mr Kelly died in 2012 after he was hit in an unprovoked attack as he walked along the street in Kings Cross.
After his death, his family set up the Take Kare foundation, which helps partygoers stay safe on a night out by roving around to offer assistance and manning a "safe space" where revellers can get first aid, a drink of water and charge their phones.
Mr Kelly's cousin Meggie Barr was volunteering for the service from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
After her shift ended at 3.45am, she was walking along Campbell Street in Haymarket with fellow volunteer Laura when they found a man lying unconscious on the ground.
The pair immediately sprang into action, Ralph Kelly, who is Ms Barr's uncle, said in a post on Facebook.
"Last night a life was saved by two of the Take Kare Ambassadors," Mr Kelly said.
"At 3.45am, Laura and Meggie were walking back to the Safe Space at Town Hall to finish their all-night shift. They found a man lying on the road covered in blood. Immediately going to his assistance, Laura commenced providing CPR to the man who had been badly beaten by a group of other men.
"He stopped breathing twice as they waited for the paramedics to arrive and take over."
Pictures from the scene showed Ms Barr and her fellow volunteer standing next to the man and speaking to police as emergency services provided more extensive aid.
Mr Kelly said he couldn't be prouder of the pair.
"Few people would have known that Meggie is Thomas Kelly's cousin," he said.
"Thomas would be so proud of you both."
The man, 26, was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he remained in an induced coma on Sunday.
However, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Three men were arrested over the alleged attack; two 30-year-olds were charged with assault, while the third man was released.
The pair who were charged have been granted bail and will appear in court later this month.
