A pedestrian who was struck by a cement truck on the Pacific Highway at Gordon, in Sydney's north, on Monday morning has died in hospital, police say.
The 71-year-old man was walking near a Woolworths supermarket when the collision occurred about 7am.
Paramedics were called to the highway and provided first aid to the man, before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
Police said the man died in hospital on Monday morning.
The truck driver, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
The cause of the accident was not clear, police said, and officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are examining the scene.
A spokeswoman for the Transport Management Centre said one north-bound lane of the highway had been closed while emergency services were at the scene.
North-bound traffic was heavier than normal, but there were no major delays, the spokeswoman said.
South-bound traffic was not affected.
