Rap star Ice Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson are right behind Kanye West's just-announced bid for the White House in 2020.
"I'll vote for him," Cube says. "He's better than everybody else that's sitting there. I mean, I like Obama but Kanye will probably have a better inaugural party."
Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson talked up West's chances while in Sydney to promote Straight Outta Compton, a bio-pic about the rise, dissolution and influence of rap group N.W.A., chuckle.
"2020 Keep it Kanye," says Jackson, who plays his father in the film. "That's the slogan. Keep it Kanye."
Straight Outta Compton, which also charts the police brutality the group faced in their home city Compton in California, has been criticised for avoiding less palatable elements of the time including assaults by group member Dr Dre against women. Dre issued an apology in August citing his deep regret for the incidents.
Cube says that if certain situations did not apply to the group's history then it "probably shouldn't be in the movie.
"We could make five different movies about N.W.A," he says. "The Ice Cube story, the Easy-E story, the Dr Dre story.
"And the music is really a small part of what the movie is about. This movie is about brotherhood, friendship, about rags-to-riches, about break-up to make-up, David against Goliath, fighting against the system.
"All these universal themes that anybody can relate to. It's a really inspirational story about five guys from a neighbourhood that people consider is the bottom. And to make it all the way to the top is inspirational for anybody.
"To me this movie is for anybody, whether you care about rap or not."
