For the first time since the tournament started back in 1931, the trophy for the winner of the NSW Open in golf has a name.
The 2015 tournament will be held at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club, Colebee on November 12-15 and will bring in some of the top professional golfers from around Australia.
In a bid to reinvigorate the tournament, officials from Golf NSW made the decision to re-brand the winners trophy and name it after the late Kel Nagle.
Nagle, who was also known by his nickname The Pymble Crusher for his ability to hit a long ball was a three-time NSW Open champion, winning the title in 1951, 1957 and 1958.
Nagle collected over 80 tournament wins, a remarkable record in a sporting career interrupted by a world war.
He was enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942 and served in New Guinea during World War II, rising to the rank of sergeant. He was discharged in December 1945.
Nagle won at least one tournament every year between 1949 and 1975, and is still the oldest winner on the Australasian PGA tour.
He is also the holder of the highest number of wins on tour, with 61. Behind him on the list is Greg Norman, with 31.
In 1986 Nagle was inducted into the Australian Sports Hall of Fame.
In 2001 he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal, and in 2007 he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Nagle died in January at the age of 94.
The official launch of the NSW Open and naming of the cup was held in the Kel Nagle Room at Pymble Golf Club on Thursday.
It is being supported by Fairfax Media.
Chairman of Golf NSW Chris Allen said they were honoured to name the trophy the Kel Nagle Cup.
"The presentation of the Kel Nagle Cup to the 2015 NSW Open Champion will be a celebration of his legacy. We will be remembering Kel and that's something pretty special, he said.
Four previous winners and family members were at the ceremony.
