Plans proceed for new hub at Eastern Creek

WESTERN Sydney Parklands Trust will soon submit to the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure a proposal for the establishment of a 17-hectare business hub at Eastern Creek.

The plan includes a bulky goods retail centre, a supermarket and several associated grocery businesses in the proposed site between Rooty Hill Road South and the M7 motorway, adjacent to the Great Western Highway.

Western Sydney Parklands Trust director Suellen Fitzgerald said an environmental impact statement would be lodged with the department in two weeks and would be placed on public exhibition for the community's response.

She said the proposal was part of the Trust's master plan to secure ongoing revenue to help fund future improvements in the Parklands.

"Based on capital investment of $129 million, the hub could support over 500 construction jobs and an additional 1600 jobs in the broader economy," she said.

"Proposed retail uses at the business hub could support about 1035 permanent full- and part-time retail jobs when the development is completed.

"The site at Eastern Creek was selected due to the relatively low conservation value of the land and its location [near] the M7."
