Stand aside, Donald Trump. When it comes to spitting venom, Chewie is a champ.
The 2.5-metre king brown snake has recently broken the world record for venom extraction, his handlers and enablers at the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast say.
He spat 1.5 grams.
The previous record extraction from a king brown snake was 1.3 grams, the head of reptiles at the park, Billy Collett, said.
"He has abnormally large venom glands," Mr Collett said.
Mr Collett said Chewie, who is about 12, had an abnormal capacity to produce venom.
"He's a top-end variety king brown, he's got a nice big flat chunky head and he just has humongous venom glands."
Snakes at the Reptile Park are "milked" every fortnight. The extractions from the milking process are used to make anti-venom.
For experienced snake handlers such as Mr Collett, the milking process is reasonably simple.
The snake is restrained by the head, and then encouraged to bite into a shot glass with a film over the top.
The venom, unlike the output of acid-tongued politicians, dribbles harmlessly into the vial.
"King browns are not the most toxic snake but what they lack in toxicity, they make up for in sheer volume, which can make its bite fatal," Mr Collett said.
"There's no snake hurt in the process, and after it we give him a nice juicy rat."
The general manager of the Australian Reptile Park, Tim Faulkner, said the park extracted venom from five groups of Australia's deadliest snakes including Taipan snakes, brown snakes, tiger snakes, death adders and black snakes.
"If you were bitten by Chewie or any king brown snake, and didn't receive anti-venom, the chances are very high that you will die," Mr Faulkner said.
Despite its common name, the king brown snake is not a true brown snake but one of the black snake family, the Reptile Park says on its website.
