A woman has died and a manhunt is under way following an alleged violent domestic attack at Bundeena, in Sydney's south.
Police were called to a home in Beachcomber Avenue about 3.30pm on Sunday after neighbours heard people fighting and someone screaming.
It is believed a man armed with a cricket bat has bashed the 51-year-old woman to death and injured a 17-year-old male.
Victim Tina Kontozis worked at the local day care centre Goanna Patch Kindergarten. She has also written a book about Bundeena called Shelly and the Rescue Warriors.
The alleged offender is Ms Kontozis's 51-year-old partner and on Sunday night he had not yet been apprehended.
Police said it's believed he left the premises in a silver-coloured Holden Commodore sedan with NSW registration plates BZ 53 ZO.
The picturesque village of Bundeena is surrounded by the Royal National Park and is home to about 2000 people.
While there is only one road in and out of the village, police are concerned the alleged offender could escape on foot via the National Park or Bonnie Vale, the largest camp ground in the Park.
Police have set up a search team at nearby Maianbar.
The injured teenager was taken to hospital by ambulance. He is in a stable condition.
A spokeswoman for NSW Police said investigations were continuing.
Family and friends expressed their sadness and disbelief on Facebook.
Fiona Schneider wrote: "A beautiful women taken from the world to (sic) early. You deserved so much better. We will never forget u XX".
Debra Smith wrote: "We are so sorry to hear this. This lady was salt of the earth."
