Two thieves kicked in the door of an 82-year-old woman’s Doonside home while she was sleeping, threatened her, demanded money and stole items including her wedding ring, police allege.
The pensioner was home alone in bed about 1.30am on Saturday, police said, when she was woken by loud noises.
Police allege that a man kicked in her front door and entered the house, while a second man waited outside.
A thief took a number of items – including two handbags, cash and the woman’s wedding ring – before fleeing the house, police said.
A short time later, two men were seen by witnesses running nearby School Parade.
Two residents chased after the pair but one of the suspects escaped by jumping a number of fences.
The other suspect was pursued to Kildare Road where patrolling police stopped and intervened.
A 21-year-old man was arrested.
He was spoken to by officers and released without charge, pending further investigations.
Police also conducted a patrol of School Parade where they located a bag containing some of the woman’s belongings.
Police are investigating the robbery and are trying to locate the second man who was chased on the night.
