More than $222,000 will be spent on securing a Blacktown high school with closed-circuit television cameras, perimeter fencing, access control and an emergency alert system.
The high-tech security systems will be installed at Evans High School with funding provided by the federal government.
The Minister for Home Affairs and Justice, Jason Clare, said the funding had been targeted to the school because it had been deemed at risk.
‘‘It is a targeted program aimed at schools at risk of racial, religious or ethnically motivated violence, property crime or harassment,’’ he said.
Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic said the safety upgrade would make a significant difference for the community.
‘‘Ensuring the safety of the whole school community is vitally important as students and teachers get on with their day-to-day learning,’’ he said.
‘‘Providing these upgrades will give peace of mind to parents, students and teachers.’’
This is the third round of funding under the Secure Schools program.
The first two rounds provided $19.8 million for safety upgrades to 54 schools across Australia.
