Quakers Hill cops fly high after win

QUAKERS Hill police replaced their Blacktown colleagues as the fastest in the North West Metropolitan Region in the annual Plane Pull competition at RAAF Richmond Base last Saturday.

The 20-man Quakers Hill Local Area Command squad led by Superintendent Gary Merryweather hauled the 40-tonne C-130 Hercules aircraft over 10 metres of tarmac in 15.22 seconds.

Last year’s winners, the Blacktown team of 12 men and eight women, were only able to pull the plane in 16.05 seconds.

The Public Order and Riot team won the 1st place gold trophy in 12.42 seconds to retain the trophy they have held for the past three years.

 The Corrective Services State Emergency Unit were second with a time of 13.08 seconds and RAAF Richmond third with a time of 13.39 seconds.

The Fastest Open Team was RAAF Richmond, Fastest State Crime Command Team was Asian Crime Squad, Fastest Central Metro Region Team was Sutherland LAC and Fastest Corporate Team was Steggles Chicken.

21 teams from NSW Police, Emergency Services and corporations to part in the event to raise money for charity.

The event was organised by the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise funds for Special Olympics NSW, which holds regularly sporting events and competitions for people with an intellectual disability.
