Gough Whitlam
On 13 November 1972, Gough Whitlam took the stage at Blacktown's Bowman Hall.
The hall was packed to overflowing.
That night proved to be one of the most significant in Australian political history, and Gough Whitlam delivered a speech that would become iconic throughout the following four decades.
“The decision we will make for our country on 2 December is a choice between the past and the future, between the habits and fears of the past, and the demands and opportunities of the future. There are moments in history when the whole fate and future of nations can be decided by a single decision. For Australia, this is such a time.”
The Whitlam Institute will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ‘‘It’s time’’ speech at the place where it was delivered.
Guests and performers will include former prime minister Bob Hawke, The Whitlams lead singer Tim Freedman, Whitlam Institute board chaiman John Faulkner, Speechwriter and author Graham Freudenberg, Singer and Whitlam Institute board member Patricia Amphlett (Little Pattie) and the Campbelltown Performing Arts High School choir.
Tickets cost $85 and include dinner.
