Three people have escaped without injury after a light plane carried out an emergency landing on a golf course in Sydney's south-west on Thursday afternoon.
The plane circled Liverpool Golf Course just before 1.50pm, leaving those on the course wondering what it was doing, before it managed to touch down on the grass and skid into the water.
Emergency crews were called expecting a major incident, but they found everyone on the plane uninjured – and remarkably still dry – after it landed in the water near the 10th hole.
One witness took out his phone to film the plane as it barely cleared the treetops, before it disappeared as it dipped lower.
"My dad said 'this is going down, I think'," Dean McGregor told Seven News. "I said 'nah it's not, it's just making a bit of a funny noise and getting to their airport'.
"We thought with big fairways there he'll be right, but we sort of heard a thud, then nothing. So we were looking for some smoke... we thought he must've landed alright... but he went into the tenth lake."
A man wearing a pilot's uniform who was believed to be flying the plane said it had "landed safely".
"I'm just glad to be back on the ground," he said, as he walked from the golf course with the plane's crew.
The plane reportedly lost power shortly after it took off from nearby Bankstown Airport and tried to turn back, but wasn't able to make it.
Chris Wilson, who also witnessed what happened, said all three people on board managed to climb onto the wing of the plane then jump to the shore without getting wet.
"They just walked out. They're not even wet," Mr Wilson said. "It's just amazing, it's their lucky day."
