TWO powerful community groups are meeting soon to discuss holding a joint campaign to fight against an energy company drilling for coal seam gas near Prospect Reservoir.
Melinda Wilson from Blacktown Community Against CSG recently wrote to Sandra Lee, secretary of the Darug Tribal Aboriginal Corporation (DTAC) to discuss her concerns.
"The Darug people should know what is going to happen on their lands.
"We would love to join with them to protect the land from greedy mining corporations, as our water supply will be at risk," she said.
A spokesman for DTAC said he would contact Ms Wilson to organise the meeting.
Ms Wilson said she wrote to Ms Lee to alert her that Eastern Creek and Prospect were included in a licence held by by Macquarie Energy Pty for coal seam gas drilling near Prospect Reservoir.
She said the Darug community, as traditional owners of the land, should know this would be happening in Blacktown soon.
"The licence is now being reviewed for environmental factors," she said.
"Maybe this is why Blacktown Council recently said they would no longer recognise the Darug as traditional owners of the land."
The Petroleum Exploration Licence is held by Macquarie Energy Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dart Energy Ltd (the operator).
A spokesman for Dart, Andrew Collins, said the licence would allow his company to explore the Cumberland region for coal seam gas.
However, he said his company did not currently have any plan to conduct exploratory drilling near Prospect Reservoir.
Mr Collins said he would know more after the completion of a land use study next year.
Blacktown mayor Len Robinson and a Sydney Water Catchment Authority spokeswoman say they are unaware of plans for exploratory drilling near the reservoir.
