A young girl has passed away from critical burn injuries sustained in a Doonside house fire early last month.
Miata Kbaba, 9, and her family were caught in the blaze on Hill End Road on August 6.
The fire tore through the Kbaba family home about 6.40am, destroying most of their possessions.
Miata’s parents and her four sisters were able to escape but it took a neighbour’s courageous effort to pull her from the flames.
Her father had tried to rescue her from the blaze but was overcome by the smoke that had filled the home.
She suffered burns to 90 per cent of her body and was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
Tragically, she died of her injuries last week following a month-long battle.
While she fought for her life in hospital, Miata’s classmates at The Ponds Public School started to raise money and collect household items to donate to Kbaba family.
The school has raised more than $4000 for the family and is well on its way to a goal of $10,000.
The family has been forced to relocate to Blackett following the fire.
