The prestigious private school where a female teacher allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student can now be identified as Sydney Grammar.
The teacher allegedly had sex multiple times with the 17-year-old, who she taught at the elite school in the inner-Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst.
An interim court order suppressing the name of Sydney Grammar was in place but it was dropped in the Sydney Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.
Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge said it was important that members of the school's community were aware "this matter is afoot".
The court heard that the teacher and the boy were involved in extra curricular school activities that required them to spend time alone together.
It was in this context, the court heard, that a sexual relationship developed. Text messages were also allegedly exchanged between the two.
Court documents allege the offences occurred over a three-month period and took place at different locations.
The teacher allegedly kissed and had sex with the boy twice in Newtown between January and February.
She is also accused of having sex with him four times in Darlinghurst between January and March.
The woman was charged earlier this month with indecent assault and six counts of sexual intercourse with person under care between 17 and 18 years.
Magistrate Milledge continued a suppression order on the name of the teacher out of concern that its publication could lead to the identification of the student.
"It may be that other victims come forward," she said. "There may be some utility in the school being known."
In a statement, Sydney Grammar headmaster John Vallance said the teacher had been suspended as soon as the school became aware of the allegations.
Parents had been notified about the situation, Dr Vallance said, and support had been provided.
"The employee concerned was suspended and forbidden to have any contact with pupils pending the outcome of the matter," Dr Vallance said.
"There is no more we can say at this stage while the police continue to investigate."
The exclusive school boasts an impressive alumni including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
The teacher was arrested earlier this month and was granted bail. She did not appear in court for the legal discussion about non-publication orders.
The matter is due to come before court again later this year.
