Meanwhile far from reality, attendees at US consular events in Sydney and Canberra overwhelmingly voted for Hillary Clinton.
Of 103 votes cast in Sydney, Trump got 23 against Clinton's 80.
But at the US embassy event in Canberra, Clinton romped in with 60 votes, leaving Trump to limp home with nine.
Attendees took their cue from the US: most didn't bother to vote.
In a strange day, one of the stranger sideshows in Australia was the outing of the powerful NSW Liberal Party powerbroker and lobbyist Michael Photios as an unexpected Clinton fan.
He joined some CBD powerbrokers and hangers-on to watch the US election unfold at the James Cook Ballroom in the InterContinental Sydney as guest of the US consul-general Valerie Fowler at an election watch event.
However, Mr Photios was the only heavy hitter to get into the swing of things.
He wore an "I'm with her" badge.
"Always liked Hillary," Mr Photios said. "Mind you, not everyone on my side is a great admirer. Not that they'd go public on it."
About 300 guests joined Mr Photios at the hotel, including former federal Labor foreign minister and NSW Labor premier Bob Carr and actors Home and Away's Shane Withington and Underbelly's Roy Billing.
From Western Australia, former Australian ambassador to the US Kim Beazley was beamed to the east, and joked about a poll in Germany showing 90 per cent supported Mrs Clinton.
"It means that Hillary Clinton is the preferred presidential candidate not only by Christian Democrats and Social Democrats but by neo-Nazis and Communists ... That's as close to unanimity as you can get," Mr Beazley said.
