IT HAS been a horror few days on NSW roads.
Between Thursday and Monday, there were nine fatalities in motor vehicle accidents on the state’s roads.
It is understood that speeding, drink-driving, mobile phone use and fatigue have been among the factors for the accidents in recent days.
According to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, the 2016 road toll has now reached 366 (as of December 6).
This means there has been 42 more fatalities so far this year than during 2015.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, there were two fatalities within 50 minutes in the Greater Sydney region.
About 2.30am, police and emergency services were called to the M2 Motorway following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a B-double truck.
The 18-year-old pedestrian was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, before he passed away.
Less than an hour after that accident, police and emergency services were called to Badgerys Creek Road, about 500m from The Northern Road at Bringelly, following reports a car had crashed into a tree.
The vehicle was well-alight when emergency services arrived at the scene.
A crime scene was established when a body was located inside the vehicle.
On Monday afternoon, an 18-month-old girl died after she was hit by a car at Kiama.
On a video on the 7 News Sydney Facebook page on Sunday, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said it been “another dismal weekend on NSW roads”.
“We’ve now had 365 deaths on our roads this year, which is one person a day killed,” he said.
“That’s 365 people who won’t be having Christmas at home, and 365 people who are lost to us forever.”
