An elderly man has been extradited from Britain to NSW accused of hundreds of child sex offences stretching back decades.
The man, 72, will appear in court on Thursday after NSW Police detectives escorted him on a flight from London which landed in Sydney early on Thursday.
The man was taken to Mascot police station, where police said he was charged with "multiple child sex offences".
Police could not immediately say how many charges were laid, but the figure is understood to be more than 300.
All of the charges relate to one alleged victim, police say, and the offences are alleged to have occurred in Sydney in the 1970s and 1980s.
Detectives from the Bankstown Local Area Command travelled to Britain last week and arrested the man on 23 outstanding warrants, following a years-long investigation.
The man is scheduled to appear in Waverley Local Court on Thursday.
