The next Chad Reed could be found in Blacktown, with Eastern Creek soon be home to the country’s first permanent indoor motocross stadium.

Plans for Sydney Indoor MotoX Park, as it will be known, have been lodged with Blacktown Council.

It’s hoped the facility will be opened in time for Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway’s 20th birthday in December – which is set to be renamed the Sydney Premier Karting Park.

The privately backed $5 million facility would be open from 9am to 9pm daily, and boast a cafe, retail outlet and hold 6000 people in a stadium-style grandstand.

The addition of Sydney Indoor MotoX Park is something completely new to Australia - let alone our city. - Blacktown mayor Stephen Bali

The project is the brainchild of Matthew Bartolo, who grew frustrated at having no local tracks to ride with his kids.

It would cater to riders of all skill levels, according to Mr Bartolo.

“If you live in the western Sydney corridor from Parramatta through to Penrith, you can drive for up to two hours before you find somewhere suitable to ride,” he said.

“Sydney Indoor MotoX Park will give riders a facility to ride in at any time of day or night and in any weather condition. Riders can bring their bike or hire one of our bikes and full safety equipment on-site.

“A rider can finish work, grab their bike and within 15 minutes of where they live, have dinner at our cafe, have a ride and be home by 9pm.”

Mr Bartolo said the “revolutionary” project had the full backing of NSW Department of Sport and Recreation and would tie in nicely with Blacktown Council’s 20-year transformation plan.

“We’ll have engineers come from the US to construct it at Sydney Premier Karting Park and will look to have our grand opening in line with the 20th anniversary of the karting park.”

Blacktown mayor Stephen Bali welcomed the plans, saying it would consolidate the area’s reputation as a sporting hub.

“The addition of Sydney Indoor MotoX Park is something completely new to Australia - let alone our city,” Cr Bali said.

“It will be a safe, world class and most importantly - legal - facility for recreational dirt motorcyclists to enjoy their sport and compete year round.”
