The SMASH! Sydney Manga and Anime Show is back in western Sydney on August 19-20 and will host the biggest names in Japanese cosplay and animation.

Western Sydney resident Vinh Nguyen is a regular attendee to pop culture events and will be going next weekend.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the different cosplay on the day - a lot of artists are very creative with what they do,” he said.

“I’d encourage anyone to come along if they are a fan of any type of pop culture.”

The 25-year-old will be dressing up as a Ken doll next weekend.

“I’ve got the mattel sticker, the pink box and the price tag – it’s going to be hilarious,” he said.

President Andrew Qui said for the fans of pop culture the convention is one of the greatest experiences of the year. “SMASH! offers something for fans of all ages to love,” he said.

The list of guests includes cosplay superstars Baozi and Hana, voice actors Shizuka Itoh, Daisuke Sakaguchi and Shiori Mikami, manga illustrator Asami Hagiwara, illustrator Redjuice, gaming officer Hiroaki Yura, character designer Yushuke Kozaki and Japanese disc jockeys Yui Kanan and Teddyloid.

The program includes panels, workshops, cosplay competitions, gaming tournaments, the Gunam Builders World Cup and a Maid Cafe.

“It is an all age event – it’s totally G rated,” Nguyen said.
