For the second season in a row, The Hills Sports High School and Westfields Sports High School will play off in the NSW final of the GIO Schoolboys Cup.
Despite the deja vu, Hills Sports hope to reverse the result after losing to Westfields in extra time in last year’s NSW final. Westfields went on to win the national final.
Fresh off a 54-18 semi-final win over St Gregory’s College, Hills Sports coach Scott Jones said it was a great performance.
“I was really pleased with the result just in the maturity the boys played with,” he said. “It wasn’t only us – they played well too and it made for a great game but the maturity that my boys showed to get that performance out, I was very proud of them.”
The Seven Hills school has had a strong GIO Cup season so far, going undefeated so far with a draw against Endeavour Sports High School the only blemish.
Despite the success so far, Jones said the side weren’t getting too far ahead of themselves.
“All the boys are very grounded, I like it that way myself,” he said. “We had a goal of where we wanted to be by the end of the year and we’re working towards that but to get there, you have to take it one game at a time.”
The GIO Schoolboys Cup NSW final between The Hills Sports High and Westfields Sports High will be held on Wednesday, August 30 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
