Get those cameras rolling for the sixth annual Made in the West Film Festival.
Hosted by Still Searchin Productions, the festival’s red carpet celebration will display short films made by independent production houses and student filmmakers from western Sydney.
Festival organiser, Ross Page of Still Searchin Productions, said submissions are now open and films of any genre are welcome, from documentaries and music videos, to animation and drama series, sci-fi and horror.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of industry professionals with finalists competing for trophies including; Best in the West Award, Best Student Film and the Audience Choice Award.
Page said the event was first conceived after he saw the need to expose the explosive cultural growth of the western Sydney region.
“Western Sydney is often perceived as the ‘bogan’ part of Sydney, but it’s much more than that. Sydney has grown so much that it’s more than just demographic generalisations,” he said.
“There are plenty of amazingly talented voices and artists that come out of western Sydney.
“This unique festival shines a spotlight on western Sydney’s emerging film scene and celebrates short films representing life in the western suburbs.”
All entries must be under 15 minutes in duration. Submissions close on Friday, November 10, with the festival being held on November 25.
