Waterways are important habitats for many living species, and they need your help to protect them. Bring your kids these holidays and equip yourself with the knowledge on how to protect local waterways with some fun outdoor activities. Sustainable Living

In this hands-on workshop, learn how to support your organic garden with a natural approach to fertilising and pest control. Learn more about integrated pest management, good bugs and bad bugs, companion planting and how to make natural fertilisers and natural pest control remedies from items in your pantry and garden. You will leave the workshop feeling confident you can manage your garden organically. Details: 6pm-8pm, October 8. Address will be given during booking. OzTag Gala Day

Head to the Emerton Youth Recreation Centre to enjoy the last day of school holidays by participating in a 5v5 OzTag Gala day. Plant Giveaway

Each year, between September and October the ‘Travelling Plant Giveaway’ run by Blacktown Council provides the community with numerous opportunities to collect free plants. There will be 2500 plants available to Blacktown LGA residents, first in first served. Residents must bring along proof of residency with a limit of two plants per residential allotment. Details: 9am-1pm, October 10, Popondetta Park, Emerton. Contact: 9839 6000.

Animal cupcake decorating
