A man is in a serious but stable condition after falling three metres onto concrete at Blacktown Hospital this afternoon.

Medical staff were quick to help the construction worker, 29, who suffered a severe head injury at the hospital work site.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called at 1.58pm and landed minutes later.

The critical care team intubated the man at the scene and placed him in an induced coma to stabilise his breathing.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital by road ambulance, where he remains in a stable condition.

It is not yet known how the man came to fall three metres at the site of the hospital’s ongoing $700 million upgrade.
