We'd like to combine our antarctic cruise with an overland trip to Patagonia. Considering a small group tour but none match up with our dates. Is it possible to self drive, either starting in Ushuaia and finishing in Santiago or vice versa, or can an operator make an itinerary for us? V. Copping, Oatley NSW
Since Ushuaia and Santiago belong to two different countries you can't hire a vehicle to travel between them. You could fly between Ushuaia to Punta Arenas, or take a rather long bus ride, and either pick up or drop off your hire car there but as far as I can tell the one-way drop-off fee for driving between here and Santiago is steep.
