Views of the Government of Japan on Issues of Comfort Women.
There have been many wars throughout history, and those wars severely violated the honour and dignity of women. The government of Japan believes that it is important to make the 21st century a time to end human rights violations, and will make its upmost effort to achieve this goal.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is deeply sympathetic and sensitive to women who have experienced immeasurable pain and suffering as comfort women. The feelings of remorse and repentance expressed by the previous prime ministers are continued by Prime Minister Abe.
During the first Abe government, a cabinet decision was made regarding this issue. Based on this, the Abe government believes it is ideal for more discussions to be had in the future in regards to this issue from an academic stand point as historians and intellectuals are currently conducting research on various issues surrounding comfort women.
Prime Minister Abe is of the view that this issue should not be politicised or be turned into a diplomatic issue.
