UWS and other university students could hit a higher wall of debt, fee forecasts show. The new fee structure is to start in 2016.
■ 16 years to pay back a $75,000 HECS-HELP debt on an average annual income of $80,000 a year, and;
■ 22 years for a $100,000 HECS-HELP debt at the same income rate, according to modelling by Curtain University.
■38 per cent HELP debt rise for a five year medicine degree from $50,000 to $69,000 in 2016, if universities raise fees just enough to cover subsidy cuts. Up to $33,000 for the same degree if universities opt to inflate course costs by 40 per cent.
■ $17,000 to $31,000 - The difference in humanities course fees based on the same calculations by the LH Martin Institute.
