A 54-year-old Melbourne woman was found dead in a Bali hotel room on Friday morning after complaining of difficulty breathing the day before.
The woman was in Bali with her sister and friends.
Members of her travelling party found in her room at Akmani hotel in Legian at about 8am on Friday morning.
She was taken to the Sanglah morgue where she was examined at 11.35am.
Forensic doctor Ida Bagus Putu Alit said an internal investigation found no sign of trauma.
He said the body showed signs of asphyxiation with blue lips and blue skin under the nails.
An employee from Akmani hotel who accompanied the woman's body to the morgue said she had complained of health problems on Thursday, saying she was having trouble breathing.
The hotel's manager said the woman had gone to a nearby clinic for a check-up.
"She looked a bit unwell yesterday," he said.
"Her friend comes to the lobby and confirmed she has died already at eight in the morning."
Dr Ida said the time or death was eight to 12 hours prior to the examination.
The family has been notified and is talking with their insurance company about whether an autopsy will be required.
The employee from Akmani Hotel said the woman had checked in on March 7 and was due to check out on March 20.
Her friends alerted the hotel after they found her body and an ambulance was called.
The hotel employee said she had a history of illness.
The chief of the Kuta police criminal investigative unit Dewa Tagel Wijasa said police found nothing suspicious.
"She died of an illness, a lung infection," he said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to her family.
The department said it would not be providing further details due to privacy considerations.
