ACT Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham expects Henry Speight's form to have an impact on the Wallabies' World Cup campaign in England and Wales later this year.
The Fijian flyer hoped his brace against the Pretoria Bulls on Friday night would be the catalyst for more tries as the Brumbies look to secure a Super Rugby play-off berth as they head to Perth to face the Western Force on Friday.
Speight doubled his season try tally to four, showcasing his strong fend and blistering speed with one of his two tries a long-range effort from near the halfway line.
It ended a five-week drought for Speight, who last crossed the stripe against the Otago Highlanders at Canberra Stadium on Anzac Day.
Larkham said it was obvious before the Bulls game that Speight was determined to have a big game and the Wallabies winger didn't disappoint.
The Brumbies coach, who is also the Wallabies backs coach, said his form was good enough to stamp himself on the World Cup.
"Yeah definitely, the form tonight, he's had it all year, he's been carrying really strong," Larkham said.
"It was just [on Friday night] he managed to flick off a couple of would-be defenders and got over the line.
"Other games he flicks off a couple of defenders and then someone else picks him up.
"Henry's form this year has been superb and I think all the guys will be really focused on Super Rugby at this stage, but the first step after Super Rugby is just to make the squad and his form has warranted that all year.
"He's going to make the squad and then we'll see what happens after that."
Speight wasn't looking that far ahead and was simply focused on the Force.
He was relieved to get his name back on the score sheet and hoped it would begin a run of tries leading into the finals.
The Brumbies have gone top of the Australian conference, although the NSW Waratahs could reclaim that spot with a win against the Johannesburg Lions in South Africa early Sunday morning.
"Hopefully [it's a springboard], but I'm just happy to be scoring tries to be honest," Speight said.
"I haven't done too much this season for the Brums ... I was overdue to produce for [my teammates and the fans] and that stalls them for a bit.
"[Hoping it continues] for the next two games at least, we're over in Perth next week so hopefully it gets better."
Speight was already looking forward to resuming his rivalry with Australian rugby's most colourful character, the Honey Badger.
Both Speight and Nick Cummins are rivals for the Wallabies wing and also rivals as cult figures.
The quietly spoken Fijian was looking forward to taking on the man with a saying for every situation.
Perth hasn't been the happiest hunting ground for the Brumbies since the Force joined Super Rugby in 2006, with just three wins and a draw from their seven encounters out west.
"Personally it hasn't been too bad for myself, playing in front of the sea of blue and coming up against the Honey Badger, it's always a good battle," Speight said.
"But we really need to start better and nail a lot of important stuff i that first half to set us up for the second half, especially against the Force, who will be playing out of their skin."
