A factory fire in the southern Sydney suburb of Mascot prompted warnings to nearby residents on Sunday to stay clear of asbestos fibres.
The blaze, which sent up large plumes of black smoke, is believed to have occurred inside an engineering factory near the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Botany Road.
The fire triggered the closure of Botany Road for over an hour, and heavy traffic built up through the area.
A resident one street from the fire, Sarah Domenici, said the fire had engulfed the Eastern Engineering factory on Elizabeth Avenue, Mascot.
"The whole street was lined with fire engines, and then all the firies and policemen started putting on face masks, and came to say to us that there was asbestos in the air, it was an asbestos fire," said Ms Domenici.
"They told use to stay inside and take your pets inside and close all your doors and windows," she said.
At 3pm, Fire & Rescue NSW tweeted that the fire had been contained.
