Whether you're a cosplay veteran, a science fiction enthusiast or just curious, the SciFi Film Festival is there to help you explore and immerse yourself in the entertaining world of science fiction.
In its second year, the Festival will screen more than 50 feature films, short films and animated films at Riverside Theatres with actors Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) and Zachary Quinto (Dr Spock in Star Trek).
Festival director Tom Papas said his pick for the festival was the "amazing" short film Clones.
"It features Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) as a doctor who wants to copy the brain of a body of a dying scientist into a cloned body — what could go wrong?" he laughed.
Mr Pappas added that he was thrilled to include the short film Closets in the program.
"It contains a social message about LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender] people and brings to light the struggles of youth," he said.
"Kindred is the first sci-fi film to star Indigenous Australians."
There will also be a sci-fi convention with cosplay, a comics exhibition with illustrators, artists and authors, seminars with industry professionals as well as craftspeople, anime, toys, books, collectibles and memorabilia, plus panels and seminars with film industry professionals.
The winner of Project SciFi, a short film competition for people of all ages from around the world, will be announced at the festival. It offers a total cash prize pool of $5750 and other prizes.
The winner of the short story competition will also be notified.
■ The SciFi Film Festival will be on October 31 at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta (corner of Church and Market streets), from 10am.
