If you ever wanted the chance to walk a mile in talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey's glorious, designer shoes, now is your chance.
The 61-year-old billionaire businesswoman also signed the eye-catching designer shoes, size 41, in order to raise as much money as possible for the initiative that goes towards sending girls in the impoverished African nation of Sierra Leone to school. The charity's Do It In A Dress initiative aims to provide one million girls with access to education by 2020.
"A girl born there is more likely to be raped than she is to go to high school. Does that not strike you as a little off? Well that's why we're doing something to change it," the One Girl website reads.
"It's not okay with us that an 11-year-old girl can be sold to a 55-year-old man in the name of marriage. It's not okay that a 12-year-old girl is forced to sell herself in a brothel to earn money to survive. Stories like this that we hear each week are not inevitable. We can do something about it," it adds.
Just $300 can send a girl to school there for a year and Oprah's friend Megan Castran, who is also ambassador for the charity, told Fairfax Media on Monday that she hopes the auction will raise "around $5000" in funds for the worthy cause.
As to what you could do with the fancy footwear, Megan says she'd never wear them.
"I wouldn't wear them because I don't wear heels," Megan said. "I would put them on my coffee table or entrance table for people to talk about."
Acting as the official "Today Show Oprah Correspondent", Megan will go from city-to-city and report the morning after about An Evening With Oprah, which kicks off Wednesday at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Jewelchic founder Megan and Oprah have been friends for almost five years after first meeting in Hawaii on 2006. Their relationship stepped up a notch in 2010 when Oprah dropped into Megan's birthday party at her Toorak home for some tacos. Oprah returned the favour, hosting the Australian mother-of-two for lunch in 2012.
Megan explained to Fairfax that when Channel Nine first asked her to be their "Today Show Oprah Correspondent," she "really loved the idea", but wanted Oprah's blessing first.
"My connection to her is far more important that being on TV for a week," Megan explained. "She wrote back to me within 10 minutes and said: 'Absolutely, go for it, that will be great!'
"It was really thrilling to have her blessing," she explained.
Being friends with one of the most powerful women in the world, Megan understands Oprah's busy schedule and said she's "not sure yet" if they will have a chance to hang out during her first trip back Down Under in five years.
"If we do it will be a spur of the moment, with Oprah, who knows," Megan laughed.
