PUBLIC school teachers from across NSW will stop working temporarily on Thursday morning.
There will be minimal supervision for students when teachers take industrial action over pay and conditions.
The stop-work meeting will begin at 8.45am on Thursday and may finish as late as 11.30am.
On the Sydney Morning Herald website, NSW Teachers Federation president Maurie Mulheron said teachers would return to work after they voted on the state government's latest pay offer.
"Minimal supervision will be available for students for the duration of the meetings," he said.
"Normal classes will resume after the meetings.”
In late November, the NSW Department of Education offered the NSW Teachers Federation pay increases of 2.5 per cent per year under a new three-year award from January 2017.
The current award will expire at the end of December.
Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli told Fairfax Media the federation should hold its stop-work meeting outside of class time.
"I have suggested the [NSW Teachers'] Federation hold their meeting outside of school hours."
