A two-year-old girl has died after she was found unconscious in a backyard pool in Macquarie Fields on Sunday evening, the 15th drowning death in NSW over the holiday period.
Emergency services attended a home on Atchinson Road following reports a toddler was pulled unconscious and not breathing from the pool about 6.10pm on Sunday.
NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced treatment on the scene before taking the child to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. However, she later died.
Police officers have commenced investigation into the incident.
Officers from Macquarie Fields Local Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It is the 15th drowning death in a horror festive season for NSW.
The death of the toddler on the weekend follows the deaths of 23-month-old twins after they were found unconscious in a pool at a Kellyville Ridge address earlier this month.
On Friday alone, three people died after swimming incidents across the state, and the bodies of two men missing in waterways were found.
Just after midday on Friday, a 27-year-old Pakistani man swimming with mates at the Mermaid Pools at Tahmoor, south of Sydney, jumped off a rock and into the water below. He was seen waving for help before being pulled from the water unconscious. He died at the scene.
About two hours later, a 46-year-old man swimming and Kolora Lake Reserve in Yamba drowned.
At about 4pm, a 73-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the water at Brighton Le Sands. He later died in hospital.
Police on Friday also recovered the bodies of two men who had gone missing in separate swimming incidents.
After a two and a half day search, the body of Peter Abd-El-Kaddous was found in the Murrumbidgee River in Wagga Wagga at 2.45pm. He was swept away in a strong current on Wednesday afternoon.
Also, the body of 14-year-old Tui Gallaher was found floating in the ocean at Maroubra, three days after he went missing while swimming with his cousin.
Meanwhile, a search is under way for a swimmer missing at Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains.
A man aged in his 40s had been swimming with family at the lake about 3pm on Sunday when he went missing.
